AMI SIOUX’s photography career has spanned New York, Berlin, Paris, Los Angeles and Tokyo; Her work including contributions to the independent publications such as Self Service, i-D, and Purple.
Shooting on film for more than two decades, her minimal, crisp images balance documentary sensibility with intimacy. Sioux’s path as a photographer begin in the 90’s in New York working with the photographer Mark Borthwick, and later established her career in Paris during the influential era of Martin Margiela, Ann Demeulemeester, and Martine Sitbon.
Ami's work is based on an intimacy that demands a certain presence of the subjects in her images. When shooting, her camera dances with its subject, finding a way to reveal a hesitance or moment where the intention of each person she photographs is laid bare, present and alive, unveiling that elusive space between public projection and personal introspection.
Her books include From The Road - accompanied by an exhibition of the same title, and city based trilogy Tokyo 35°N, Paris 48°N and Reykjavik 64°N explore the relationship between creatives and the cities they inhabit. She has exhibited solo at Mannerheim Gallery in Paris and at Bookmark Gallery in Tokyo. She received her BFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute.
