Ami Sioux was born and raised in northern California, where she was first introduced to photography in high school working in the school darkroom. After graduating from high school, and after a few years on the road, she went on to earn her degree from the San Francisco Art Institute.

Moving immediately after her graduation to New York, she began to work with Maria Cornejo and her husband Mark Borthwick. In 1998, on their encouragement, she began to start working on her own as a photographer. Her first commission was from Paper magazine from Kim Hastreiter.

Ami Sioux has photographed for many fashion magazines, including Self Service, i-D, Jalouse, Vogue UK among many others.

Her portraits have been shown in magazines such as T Magazine: the New York Times Style Magazine, TGV magazine, Another Magazine, Dazed and Confused Japan, Nylon Tokyo, Paper magazine, TANK magazine, and Rendez-vous magazine.

She has realized campaigns for Nike Women and Maje and worked on other commercial projects with Topshop, Cerruti, Le Coq Sportif, Levi's and Lee.

She has just released her second book, entitled Paris 48°49N 2°29E . The first book in this series was released in 2006, entitled Reykjavik 64°08N 21°54W.

She is currently working on her next album and a first exhibition of her personal work which she'll be exhibiting in 2010.
